Hello again. Looking at the screen shot, please tell me how to get the render/clouds on the layer mask as the tut directions say. I've never seen it done like that.
Thank you again.
Hi all,
Having trouble with this problem...
I have layer 1 with a color mask set to black, red, blue etc.
I have layer 2 with a color mask which i want to match and also become black, red, blue
There are hundreds of files, and the color in layer 1 is always different.
Manually i would simply click on the layer 2 mask which opens the color picker, and select the area of layer 1 i want to match.
But doing that in a macro does not work.
I can't get a macro to recognize that i want to copy the color content of a mask, and not the specific color used in the example during which the macro is recorded. The color picker does not seem capable of selecting a dynamic input (e.g. whater color is on layer 1), it simply copies whatever was in layer 1 during recording like a dumb instrument.
thanks for any input.
Hi all!
We're using photoshop to prepare assets for a game engine, and i'm trying to find a good workflow, which i can then teach to my artist.
At this point, i have an image with five layers. 12345
Layers 2-5 each have a layer mask on them.
Now what i want to do is, copy the layer mask of layer 2, and paste it into the Red colour channel of layer 1
then mask of layer 3 into the green channel of layer 1
layer 4 into the blue channel
and layer 5 into the alpha channel
So the result is that the channels of that layer will each look identical to the layer masks, and thus layer 1 will look like a wierd (but programatically meaningful) mishmash of colours.
I'm having some problems though.
Apologies for the massive image.
This is the green channel that i've gained from the above procedure. The big gradiented circle in the middle is what i made, but for some reason i have this white stripe down the left side too. I have no idea what that is or why it's there. It appears on both he green and blue channels when i paste in a mask. But if you look at the channel image in the right hand panel, it doesn't seem to have a stripe down it.
the stripe is definitely there, it's affecting the main image, and its annoying me.
any thoughts what might be causing that?
Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to Photoshop CS 5 so I apologize if I am asking the wrong type of questions, here goes:
When working with Vector Masks can you:
1) "Link" or "share" one image's vector mask with other images? (ex. If I made "Building A" then duplicated it, but then wanted to change what Building A looked like, I would only have to change the source mask and the copies would be updated.
2) Move the image independent of the vector mask (it seems like I can only move the vector mask, not the image itself). Or in other words: can I move the image and have the mask follow it, instead of only being able to move the vector mask inside of the image boundaries?
My application of the question:
I'm making a 2D top down layout of a "city block" type area. To fill in the buildings, I've made Building A,B,C etc, and use multiple copies of each building. Ideally, I would like to be able to "link" or share say Building A's vector mask with all the other instances of Building A (so that when I change the master, they all change to the new mask shape). The second behavior I'm trying to find is the ability to move the layer without moving where the Vector Mask is on that layer (since it seems that you can only move where the mask is, meaning that even if I could share masks, they would all end up in the same place meaning I would have to re-position each one by hand again.
Any ideas are appreciated, thank you for reading.
Hey All,
First time post he
I'm using Photoshop CS6, trying to make a selection using a quick mask and a brush. Normally I would put the quick mask on, paint in my selection using a brush preset and then turn off the mask, invert the selection, and use refine selection to make it a new layer.
Now when I turn off the mask, I get the error "no pixels are more than 50% selected". I've seen on other forums that feathering can be a problem, but as far as I know the brush preset I'm using has no feathering. In fact, I just reset the tools and tried again and it still gives me that error. I've definitely selected the correct layer because there's only one to select.
Any advice?
Thanks! M
Hi Folks!
I have a very big layer stack (about 100) and I want to know if it's possible to merge two layers mantaining the maks (in both the same mask), I have tried but not working methods...
Thanks!
I'm a newbie i dont know these common problems im 2 mins in on this video
and when he selects the layer mask and paints black to turn the image to normal color. my brush does nothing, nothing happens when i use a brush. here my screen idk if i have something turned off/on that shouldnt be.
Hi!
Even though I LOVE using Photoshop, it's been a while since the last time I actually used it, therefore there are lot of things that I knew that I no longer remember (I'm getting old, clearly!) and I was wondering if anyone can refresh my memory here.
Unless I'm completely mistaken, I remember that in CS3 (though I just started using CS6) I always used Quick Mask Mode and Paths to smooth the edges of whatever abstract shape I drew, even if it was just something random that I obtained using the Polygonal Lasso selection tool to make the shape and then the Paint Bucket tool to fill it.
I no longer remember the correct steps though and when I tried, I got close but it wasn't the result I was looking for: the edges were still a bit jagged and it took me too much time (something like 13/15 steps) to get there while I remember it was quicker and easier. I searched a LOT for the very first tutorial that taught me this but it's been probably removed by now as it was quite old. All the other tutorials I found concerning Quick Mask Mode were for different purposes. I hope I made enough sense and, if anyone can help me, I'd be really grateful!
In many of these PSG threads, the responder will post a screen-shot of their Photoshop workspace to illustrate the technique they're trying to explain. How does one do a screen-shot? I'm guessing it involves the Shift>PrintScreen key on my keyboard, but then where or what do I paste the image into?
This is driving me crazy. I want to constrain the blending mode of one layer to interact ONLY with the layer directly below it. Like clipping an adjustment layer. I read one post about option clicking between the two layers and the cursor turns into 2 double rings and you click and it makes the blending mode. Whenever I do this it just makes a clipping mask. PLEASE , there must be a way to make this work.
Thanks,
M
Hallo everybody,
following a tut about Photoshop compositing, I have to create a fake shadow on the ground. I make it pretty good (see image 1) using tre different layer copy with different blendings mode and Opacity.
But when i Merge three layer i loose my semitransparent shadow...it becomes completely black, at the starting point...
(see image 2)
What it wrong?
And than, if I want to blur the (unique) faked shadow layer, how can i male it without blurring all layers of the document? I try to use an empty layer as a Clipping mask, and I applied blur to it, without results...
please help!
Thx!
