Countdown To Christmas - Social Media Image

I have been doing a short photoshop course to brush up on my skills. I am working on some social media images for an online radio station I have.

I just don't think it quite looks right, and wondered if anyone wanted a play and to teach me a few new things that might improve the image.

Would really appreciate some feedback on what you feel does and doesnt work in what i've created.

Thanks

Turning A Dataset Into A Color Library

We have a project where the final media will have a color palette limited to 454 colors. We have a conversion from the media's color selection to RGB. So, from an XML file I created a CSV file, meaning I have both if necessary, of 454 colors with a name and their RGB values.

I need to create a color library so that I can put an image in photoshop and then change it to indexed color so that it ONLY uses these 454 colors.

Is there a way to convert or compile my csv/xml file to a photoshop ACT file? I feel like there must be. I do *not* want to enter 454 colors by hand.

Thanks so much for any advice. Attached is a screenshot for reference.

Photoshop & The Future

Now most of us here, I can imagine are here to learn and enhance our knowledge on photoshop. Maybe you are a photographer and use photoshop to tweak your photos, or just here for social fun as a hobby.

I'm on PSG today because..?
Graphics design is a hobby of mine, and it has been for a long time. I am here today as I would like to improve on my photoshop skills (self study), and hopefully one day have a career in this sector.

Now its your turn, why are you here today?

Tips For Working With Text

Hi guys,

Hoping you might be able to help me out. I'm working on creating a portfolio website to showcase various creative works of mine that combine both my photography, and my writing. The portfolio site I'm building is heavily image orientated so I'm working on a way to use images to present my written work.

My idea at the moment is to break my stories up into manageable 'chunks' and place them over images that help tell stories.

I've been playing around in PS today, trying to work out how this can be done effectively. What I created however, isn't particularly great and I was hoping you guys might have some tips for working with text in Photoshop??

The image below is what I've got so far (very basic and incredibly unfinished!), I used a random font I found that I liked (any things I should look for in a font?), used the skew, and perspective tools after converting to smart object and I created a bit of shadowing under the text. One of the issues I had was that it's awkward to know what will happen to the text when it's distorted so I found myself duplicating the first text layer to skew, then deleting, editing the text a bit and repeating to get the formatting. It was quite a faff, is there an easier way?

I would really appreciate any feedback, constructive criticism, and tips. I'd like to make this Photoshopping process as simple as possible for myself in the future so I can keep creating easily.

Cheers,

Action Terminology -- I Need Help.

I saw this photoshop action the other day I was impressed with. I'm on the hunt for a similar Action but I'm completely lost on what search terms to use in my hunt.

I have 4 images that give you an idea what the action does. I will also use the images to help explain my confusion.

IMAGE 1 -- nothing special here -- just showing you the image loaded into PS.

IMAGE 2 -- Image 2 shows you the first step of the action. It basically gives you an outline of the image and changes the background. I would love to have the background color to be all white but all in all this is ok.

IMAGE 3 - In this image I'm showing that you can use any brush to paint in what you want to show on the image. This is where I get lost in my search. I have been looking for an action that can convert the background like you see in image 2 above and than give you the ability to paint what you want to show in the image. I have used terms like "sketch painting" "pencil painting" "painting image" "brush painting" "mask painting" but I can not find any actions that does what you see in these images.

IMAGE 4 - When you are done brushing , you can continue the action and it will change what you brushed in to look like a painting.

Ok..............I'm looking for actions that basically does the above. The two key elements of the action is how it handles the background and also gives me the ability to use a brush tool to paint what I want seen in the final results. Most actions I seen will just convert the whole image to look like a painting.........I want more control of what is seen in the final results by using a brush to paint what I want seen in the final results. What it converts to in the end isn't important but I would love to find something where I could convert the image so it looks like a painting, a pencil sketch, comic sketch, etc.

You can help me with what to search for or even better yet, if you know where I can find such actions, please point the way.

I spent 2 days on GraphicRiveer with very little luck or what I find did not provide me enough info for me to be certain I was getting what I wanted. Other than GraphicRiver, I have been googling but no luck.

Thanks

Graphic For Printing On The Back Of A T-shirt

Hello,
I am not sure if this is even a necessary worry of mine nut I will pitch it out anyway. I will be printing the attached file on the back of a white t-shirt and I wondered if there was any technique that could be used to reduce the harshness or abruptness of the image that may be seen when the image is printed onto the white shirt. The color at the edges of the image is very light / almost white so fortunetly in most areas of the print you may not be able to clearly see the edge. if I am not making any sense I guess what I am trying to say is I would like for it to seem like the image fades away at the edges slighhtly rather than seeing a clear edge of the picture. I could imagine using some kind of edge eraser tool with a spotty brush or partial opacity but not really sure the best way to try and achieve it. The picture unfortunetly has texy of my url running very close to the edges so I would like to be careful that we don't fade any text away. Just wondered I would see if there was a quick and easy way to do it. Ideas are welcome. If you do any work please post back your .psd file and a brief description (if it's not too complex) of how you did what you did.
Thanks,
Joe

Image Edit Request! (free) For My Stepbrothers Birthday.

Hi!

I read the guidelines for requesting a free image edit request but please excuse me if this is the wrong forum (?).

I have a photo I'd love to photoshop a pair of strangers OUT of. My stepbrother and I just did an incredible hike at Zion National Park, and I'd love to blow up the picture and frame it for his birthday. The problem is the strangers in the pic are very distracting (in my opinion) and take away from the main focus of the image. Therefore I'd like to request help in removing the strangers (the 2 people on the left, in the orange and blue shirt).

Typically I would love instructions on how to do this myself, but unfortunately I don't have Adobe Photoshop and my image editing skills are very limited (to Picasa, hehe). Therefore if anybody would like to help me photoshop this image, it would be GREATLY appreciated!

I understand a request like this can take a lot of time and effort so I will completely understand if I receive no offers. I thought I would try! This image is originally in RAW format and I had to compress it for this post, but please let me know if/how I can send the original file (I have a flickr account too). If you need any other images (I have quite a few of the same shot from a slightly different angle) please let me know.

Thanks and hope to hear from some of you soon!

Kind regards!

Cutting Out Clipping Mask Images

Hi all,

I have a problem with an image that I would appreciate your help with.

As you can see below, the image is a t-shirt shape made up of several images like a collage/mosaic (ignore the fact that the same image is repeated, they will eventually be different images).

I have achieved this by applying clipping masks to the different image layers over the top of the t-shirt image. What I now want to do is individually save all of these images so that they can be used as buttons in Adobe Flash. This is the part I am having trouble with.

I have tried using the slice tool which does work however the saved slices are all square shaped when obviously each individual image is not always a square/rectangle. Even saving them as a .png with a transparent background, I still can't use them as when they are brought into Flash, the whole square area becomes clickable as a button which I don't always want.

Hope I've made sense there!

Thank you.

Maximize Quality/minimize Size

Hello,

I am completely new to this forum so I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place. I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and have a question regarding file size/quality. So, here it goes.

I am currently working on publication that requires all downloaded photos to be uploaded to a website that has a max file size of 20 mb. When I download an image to use for a background (some sort of a pattern that is normally somewhere around 800 x 800 size) the image is about 180 kb which is perfect. Unfortunately, the image has a poor ppi resolution and prints extremely blurry so in photoshop under image size, I increase the resolution so that the file size & resolution is bigger. This takes a lot of guessing on my part.

For example, if I increased the image resolution to 100000000 ppi, the file size would end up way over 20 mb which does me no good. So what I am wondering is, is if there is a way to optimize the the resolution of the image, given the file size limitations, without all of the guess and check?

If this looks confusing, I apologize and will gladly explain more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
