Crop-sizing Jewelry Items

Tired of Trial & Error efforts. There must be a precise method. e.g. : Cropping-Sizing a 1.5" diameter disk into a 2" x 3" rectangle @ 240ppi - the final file size. I've set the grid to 1" with 8 sub-divisions...therefore gridlines at 1/8" H. & V. Messed with that way too long. Please help. Mac 10.6.8 PS CS3 ...please no snickering

Thanks,

Grid Subdivisions Not Displaying

I've been using Photoshop 10+ years and today, my grid subdivisions will not display. The grid will display, but no subdivisions. For example, I have the grid set to "Gridline Every 1 inch" and those display as normal, but no matter what number I put into "Subdivisions", nothing appears.

Has this happened to anyone else or is there an option to hide grid subdivisions I'm unaware of? Thanks for any help!

EDIT: Ugh, it apparently was the grid color. I had it as a grey, so the subdivisions were not showing up on the white background. After changing color, they displayed normally. Sorry about that.

Cropping A Complicated Image From A Complicated Background?

Good afternoon everyone! For the past few days, i've been trying to cut away a peice of audio from a screenshot of my music program. Here's an example:
I'm essentially trying to get this: (my first initial "crop-out") I wanted to know if there was a cleaner, more efficient way I could remove the audio track from the screenshot? This one's a bit sloppy and the quality isn't so nice. The problem is, this cropout of the audio is going to be going on a t-shirt. I'm afraid the shirt's overall design will suffer if I continue the method i've been doing. I've used the lasso tool around one of the tracks, and toggled with the options in "Refine Edge..." until I came out with the image directly above ^. I'm not new to Photoshop but i'm far from an expert. ANY help or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!!

Cs3 Crop Tool

After selecting an area to be cropped and I click on the "Enter" key, the whole pictures is wiped out. If I select the Rectangle tool and pick an area to be cropped and click Image>crop the cropped area is removed and the required picture remains.

Can anyone please tell me how to cure this problem so that the crop tool works properly?

Low Res 5x3 Logo Need High Res Help Getting It To 24x18

Hello,
l would really appreciate some help since I am coming to a deadline for printing some material. My problem seems to me like it should be quite eas, I have come close to a sufficient solution on my own but still not quite good enough resolution to print 24"x18" signs. In any case my issue is that I have an old design file of mine for a 5"x3" sticker with a logo on it as seen. When I try to enlarge it to the 24"x18" size the edges are way too pixelated. I have tried different selection techniques as well as refining the edges but no luck to make a high res version as yet. It's a rather simple shape and frankly I don't even care if it is redrawn to match at high res. In any case here is a copy of the logo in its native size on a 24x18 photoshop canvas. There is an image and an attachment Photoshop file, I would greatly appreciate it if someone can download the photoshop file and repost it with their efforts.
Thanks,
Dino

Design For A 5 X 2 Label

I'm having a design done for a 5 x 2 paper label. Here is what the label company told me,

Just ask your designer to add 1/8" bleeds on the graphic file size. If you are ordering a 5" x 2" , the graphic file's size should 5.25" x 2.25".

I printer out the design on my own printer, and the size is indeed about 5.25 x 2.25

I guess I'm confused about bleed. To compensate for bleed on a 5 x 2 label, shouldn't the file size be smaller, like 4.75 x 1.75 ?

Wouldn't a 5.25 x 2.25 file size print well over the actual label?

Thanks.

Toggle Between Acr And Ps ??

Hello All-

I don't understand how to go back & forth between ACR and PS with Raw (Nef) files. From ACR (after basic edits) I open to PS as "smart objects" having saved the last ACR settings before so, as a "snapshop" in ACR. This 1st snapshot is always available to the end. Once in PS I create a new Levels adjustment layer (for color correction) then return to ACR for further edits. After my final edits in ACR I take a snapshot. I now hit the OK button to return to PS for any final edits and "Save As" from there.

It doesn't matter if layers are merged or flattened before the save to Tif from PS, but when I go back into ACR I don't have a snapshot of the last edits I made within ACR, only the very first snapshot of the basics.

Why can't I save my last edits from ACR as snapshots within ACR before going to PS to save?

I would like to toggle between the two programs and save the edits in ACR snapshots within the original Raw file, yet be able to access the first snapshot that is the untouched raw file. I would like to do the edits, keep them, and retain an original raw file. I don't see how to do it going between ACR & PS.

This was a horribly confusing question to write, I did my best to explain it. Thanks for any suggestions at all....

Can This Be Done? Is It Even Possible?

Hi,
I'm wondering if this is possible:
The right side is what I'm trying to achieve.
It's a simple enough effect, but the problem is that I'm curious if it can be some sort of dynamic effect in that I can change the "A" text to "B" and still have the outline cut out of the "M" (Or whatever if I need to change the "M" text to "Q" or something).
Basically I need the "A" and "M" to be able to change while the stroke of whatever the "A" letter (or shape) is will always cut out whatever shape, text, or image is placed behind it.
Is this possible without having to manually cut it out of the back image every time?

The illusion can easily be created by having a white background and using a white stroke on the "A" (that creates the effect I'm wanting)..
However I need them to be transparent and easily editable so they can be saved as transparent images for multiple uses quickly and easily.
(I apologize if I didn't get this across very clearly)

Polygonal Lasso + Brightness = Unwanted Glow

Whenever I use the Polygonal Lasso tool lately, and then modify the brightness of the item selected, it creates a "GLOW" around the *outside* of what I have selected. So when I deselect it, there is now this "aura" around the item.

I have gone into all the settings, messed with "Feather" and the 4 or 5 other options and I see no way to eliminate this. There should be no changes outside of the selected item. Yet it seems to be reaching past the selection line just a bit, all the way around.

Examples attached.

What Am I Doing Wrong -batch Process.

I have about 700 RAW images I want to batch process through PS.
All I want to do is reduce their size from 5184 X 3456 to 900 X 600 @ a resolution of 150 and save as JPG files.

Since RAW files run through ACR first and there's no way to reduce images size I just run it and end up with full size jpg's.
I run the JPG's again through Bridge and select Tools|Photoshop|Image Processor and selected "Open first image to apply settings" but when I run this there is no pause to reduce the file size.
It just runs through all the images allowing me no option to "Apply Settings".

I realize I can record an action to do this and use Photoshop|Batch but I'd like to know why this isn't working.
Thanks guys.
